20 in 2013 Recap

by Kate Franco on January 1, 2014 · 8 comments

202013recapIt is officially that time of year again. The time where we reflect on the previous year and start again, anew. I’ve been doing this 20 things series since 2010. At the beginning of each year I make a list of 20 things I want to accomplish in lieu of traditional resolutions. You can catch the whole series here {2010, 2011, 2012}.

To find out how my 2013 turned out, read on!

  1. Schedule doctors’ appointments, don’t be a slacker! Boring, but I did it. $3000 worth of dental work later. Geez.
  2. Practice at least one random act of kindness/month. I am much kinder in an ordinary, everyday kind of way, but didn’t specifically do 1 act/month.
  3. Make time for meditation; it’s easy to let it slip. Have successfully ACTUALLY incorporated this into my life. It’s been life changing.
  4. Bring back art journaling. Brought it back, and then let it go again. Not meant to be!
  5. Try paddle boarding. Loved it, and impressed myself by NOT falling in.
  6. Redesign katefranco.com. Kept the domain because it’s cool — obviously — but still don’t have a clear purpose for this site.
  7. Love wildly. Every day I am a little bit more in love with this life.
  8. Get my palm read. This one deserves a blog post in an of itself!
  9. Do long-term financial planning. Kind of sort of started to happen, but I won’t cross it off. This is a tough one for me!
  10. Find a volunteer program that fits with my schedule {and my commute}. If by volunteer program you mean giving money and gifts, we can cross it off. Would still like to actually DO something though!
  11. Spend more time with my grandparents. Focused effort here and it’s been fun! My grandparents are cool people.
  12. Explore new {to me} parts of SF.
  13. Take a road trip. Sorry, Fresno doesn’t count.
  14. Go camping. I kind of really like the idea of a romantic camping trip. It remains to be seen if this is something that works better in theory than practice.
  15. Read {and keep a record of!} 1 book/month. They can’t be all fiction, either. Book club helped with this for a bit, so does spending up to 2 hours a day in the car.
  16. Put serious time and thought into what I want in a permanent living situation. My living situation ended up changing outside of my control and worked in my favor. So much happier with more space to call my own! Don’t currently feel any pressure to figure out what my “forever” is going to be, so it’s getting crossed off.
  17. Learn to shoot a gun.
  18. Get collaborative on blog ventures. Developed friendships with some awesome bloggers this year, and my cousin is always a source of creativity and inspiration. It’s been a fantastic and successful year for collabs. I am proud of the partnerships I’ve built!
  19. Finish Alexis and Ed’s quilt. I’m off the craft train and pretty desperately need to get back on it. Help!
  20. Speak more directly. Actually researched a speech coach, but didn’t follow through with it.
  21. Go skinny dipping. Any takers?
  22. Invest in a new stock. Done and done.
  23. Diversify posts on Undeniable Style. Want to continue to work on this, and it seems like DIY and more personal posts might be the way to go, judging by my most popular posts of 2013.

Stay tuned for 20 in 2014…

Skinny dipping is seriously fun. If you want an easy way to make it happen, wade into the ocean with your suit on, slip it off while you’re out there, and slip it back on before you leave the water. Hopefully you won’t have a frantic dash to find your bottoms after accidentally dropping them… like I did once!

Great suggestion — I haven’t been since I was probably 20 or so and I think it’s time to bring it back! xox.

Maybe your grandparents can help with #17? If I still lived in CA, I would take you! And #14!

Come to Reno, and we will take care of #13, #14 minus the romance (although I can light some candles and fix a camping dinner if you’d like!), #17 and #21. All in one fell swoop! Plus we can do another lookbook or photo shoot. Whattayasay?
