That perfectly imperfect no makeup makeup is all the rage right now. You know what I’m talking about; it goes with that tousled but not-too-tousled top knot / messy bun.
If we’re being honest, I’m pretty bad about taking care of my skin. Like shamefully bad. But, every so often, I do something right. I recently went to SkinSpirit in Palo Alto for a medical-grade facial. Now, this is not your average spa facial where they rub around some oil and do a few extractions. This is serious business, including: dermaplaning, enzyme masks and a very light chemical peel. I mean, it’s called The Power Hour, so you know it has to pack a punch.
The result? My skin is probably the best it’s looked in a year. Maybe ever.
Karen Fernandez, the Clinical Aesthetician and Manager of Esthetics at SkinSpirit (who, P.S., has been an aesthetician for over 20 years and REALLY knows her stuff) took care of me while I was there. As she was working hard on my poor, neglected face, she was also able to give me some tips for that glowing, minimal makeup, natural, no fuss skin that everyone wants. [click to continue…]

When Adiel’s Julep Maven box arrived in the mail this month, she received extra polish — Hartleigh, a glitter top coat with hearts and white glitter —  to share with her friends (how cute is that?!). So, some of us in the office decided to team up for a collaboration of the Galentine’s variety. While my gals got all creative, x’s and o’s and stripes and accent nails, I went with just the sparkly top coat, and a naked nail underneath.
One of the things about me is this: I really truly suck at doing nails. I cannot paint my own nails to save my life. Because of this, I usually operate with the motto that basic is better. Though, that’s not to say I don’t have nail aspirations — I definitely do. I just need other people to achieve them for me.
The finished product:
In love with love at this point in my life, I had so much fun celebrating v-day with a little nail art and my blogger babes. Happy Galentine’s Day, indeed!

Last week was the grand opening of the new Drybar Union Square location in SF. I was stoked to be able to get some time with Drybar founder Alli Webb — she’s awesome!
Meeting with Alli was like grabbing drinks with a good friend after work. She has this sassy, spunky energy about her and a mischievous sparkle in her eye that let’s you know she’s loving every minute of what she’s doing — building an empire.
So, we had tea and bonded of all kinds of things: half moon manis, curly hair woes {yes, she’s a naturally curly girl!} and a constantly evolving personal style. I also got the chance to ask her some questions about brand building and partnerships, so entrepreneurial-minded ladies, listen up!
Where did Drybar’s branding and voice come from? Is it tied to you personally?
Drybar’s voice is definitely taken from Alli’s own; it’s apparent from the moment you start talking to her. Of course, with Drybar’s success they have teams of people who run social media and branding, but Alli is at the helm and in on the action. She describes herself as being super hooked into social media — a woman after my own heart.
My takeaway: Take the time to develop your voice, then make sure it’s consistent and represented in every part of your business. From packaging to customer service, social media and beyond.
How has social media played a role in Drybar’s evolution?
Word of mouth is one of the cornerstones of Drybar’s success and social media has amplified that and taken it to a whole new level.
