The long-promised post about my {not so} new room. There are still some things that I want to add/change {like this faux fur throw I’m jonesing for & the new desk that I recently purchased} but this at least gives you a little idea.

If I was really bad ass, I’d build you a model of how my room is set up. But Google Sketch Up is hard, y’all! You’ll have to settle for the written word, instead. {If anyone has tried Google Sketch Up and has tips, let me know!}

When you walk into my room, the far wall has a huge bookcase and the dresser with the TV/Wii. I tried really hard to get a good shot of the bookcase, but given space constraints it was not happening. Bummmmer. Here’s a peek at the contents of the bookcase:

You can tell that I’m definitely not a minimalist…hahaha. The top of the bookcase has an assortment of photos, a large lamp, and Sigmund the elephant. The bookcase contains lots and lots of books {duh}, including your standard fashion books, and some personal effects:

At the foot of the bed I have a storage chest; it used to be a purple toy box when I was little but several years ago my mom totally stripped it down, reupholstered it and added legs. It’s perfect!Note that when I bought this rug {which I was so stoked about!} I was still living in my studio apartment, and this size was the right size. It was not originally intended to be used in a bedroom. So I’m cheating by only sticking it halfway under the bed. I’m the only person who uses the non-rug side of the bed anyway, nbd.

I don’t know if you can tell from these photos, but two of the walls are the loveliest shade of pale minty green. I modified my original idea for a coral living room. Also, please note that the green sheets are my “spare” sheets; usually I use cuter beige and white damask print ones, but they were in the wash at the time!

And without my new desk, I’m still working from bed. So, now you know where I’m writing from.

So, I moved approximately 5 months ago…and promised you guys pics of my new room. Sadly, I have not yet delivered on that promise, but you can consider this post the pre-cursor.

My bedroom vanity was a big source of comments on Little Lessons a couple weeks ago, so I thought I would share some pics of one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

I love the Art Deco period, and I feel so LUCKY that I have a great bedroom set from that era that has been passed down to me. The set includes: headboard, footboard, nightstand, chest of drawers, and this awesome vanity. Out of those pieces, I’m using everything but the headboard/footboard. And the dresser is in my closet, so it cuts down on the matchy-matchy look. The whole collection could stand to be refinished, but considering how old it is and how many moves it’s been through, it’s in pretty divine condition.

I’ve been looking for ways to up my productivity…I can blog like a mofo from my bed, but I have a hard time actually, you know, working, from bed. Thus, I’ve been thinking about getting a desk. I haven’t owned on of those since…2002. Yep, you heard me. That’s almost a decade without one. I’m overdue, and it’s time.

I was at Home Goods {which you know is like my favorite place, ever} and I came across this desk. I had a $25 gift card, and it was by far the best price I’ve seen in awhile. So I swooped. And here she is:

It looks so tiny in this pic! Usually, my process for decorating works like this: I find a ton of images that speak to me, put them all in one space, and then pick pieces that fit the criteria defined based on that moodboard {Hello, process orientation. It’s just how I roll.}

So despite the backwards process, here is my inspiration. Holy pictures!

I finally got around to giving my inspiration a dose of practical application. Remember how excited I was about this post awhile back? Well here’s my plan to make it happen:

We have all of our large furniture pieces already {two couches, a coffee table, and rug}. I’m excited to make a splash just by changing some of the details. We’ll see what the roomies think!

On the way home from the grocery store tonight I was inspired to breathe some new life into our living room. Of course, my thoughts were originally inspired by this domino post a couple weeks ago…but today it really came to fruition.

It’s WAY girlier than I usually am, but I’m not going to lie, it makes me happy.

Taupes, Browns & Grays with splashes of pink. A teeny little pinch of yellow, too. And, fresh flowers are the clutch move in this environment. Preferably pink peonies.

Did you guys love the outfit to room series as much as I did? Man, I miss it. I am loving everything about this room…it makes me want to redecorate my living room in shades of gray, cream, and brown with a hint of pink. Also loving that brass lamp.

What’s the point in dreaming if you don’t dream BIG?

I have posted again and again about must-haves when I own a home, but I haven’t really decided what kind of home I want. {Guess it’s a good thing I’m not in the market.} Currently completely enamored by loft spaces: the light, airiness, and tough nature of industrial elements. Exposed brick and pipes? Be still my heart…Plus, a live/work space seems pretty romantic in a lot of ways.

Old News: Pantone Spring 2011 color report…everyone is dying over honeysuckle! And I agree, yum {bold & cheerful, what’s not to LOVE}…but I think I actually prefer mine as an accent. Especially when paired with some of Pantone’s other top colors for the season.
New News: Using honeysuckle in decor & in the middle of winter no less. {don’t forget all images are clickable if you want to see them up close and personal!}

I’d like to come home from work tonight wearing the delicious coat below, climb into that tub for a long soak, and then immediately get into the gorgeously made bed and admire the needlework on my night table. mmmm. A girl can dream, no?

Good morning & Happy Monday! I had the lovely fortune of experiencing this tiny gem of a boutique hotel in LA {silverlake} this past weekend. The decor was SO chic that even though it wasn’t typically “me,” I still walked away wanting to umyouknow, live there. Welcome to my mini tour.

Kitchen:

Gorgeous mid-century modern dining tables and chairs. Red lacquer kitchen cabinets (um, totally amazing), limes ready to be sliced on the counter, and a handwritten note with the details of the breakfast to be served the following morning. French doors connect to the bedroom.

Living Room:

Dark and loungy infused with hints of traditional Mexican decor {again, amazing}. Also featured: a huge mounted tv, board games {including ‘I Never’}, and a record player with records. Yes, please.

Bedroom:

And of course, I saved the best for last. The bedroom with dramatic large scale wallpaper, ornate headboard and leopard print sheets, and the same traditional Mexican accents. Pure perfection.

The only room I didn’t get a photo of was the bathroom. Done entirely in the same colors as the living room, deep purples and plums with a walk-in shower. Also, all the doors were on tracks with super industrial anodized iron. Lovelove. Rumor has it they may have a shop section on their website soon. Yes, please.

Highly, highly recommended.

Some of you mentioned how, um, cryptic some of my little lessons have been. {@heysuburban, I’m lookin’ at you!} For the last month or so I have be struggling with a decision, and now it’s official: I’m moving!

It was such big decision because I am comfortable in my current life. I’m not really into the whole change thing, and so to willingly change my comfortable life seems like maybe more than I could deal with. In the end, I realized that it is going to improve my quality of life, even if there are some obstacles that seem challenging.

So, in the end, I am giving up my independent lifestyle and cute studio for roommates {including a sweet little dog named Andie} and a better quality of life. {Hello, new wardrobe and a trip to Paris! I see you in my future.}

Where am I moving, you ask? To a lovely flat in the Mission District of SF. Will I become a hipster, you wonder? The answer to that friends, is no. I will be living with the lovely Logan & Lindsey and enjoying ample space, sunlight, and my new zigzag rug. {yes! it finally came!} Plus, you know how I like re-decorating.
