Undeniable Style Goes Consulting

by Kate on December 10, 2008

in Play.,Work.

Undeniable Style has been up and running for a little over a year now…and 2008 is almost over. I’ve been reflecting on what a CRAZY year it has been and coming up with ideas for how to improve the blog. I started by revisiting my mission statement and then I realized that I haven’t even told you guys about my foray in to consulting!

It sounds cheesy, but Katherine and I gave someone a makeover. Now, you know I believe style is fundamentally about perception – it reflects how you feel about yourself and consequently determines how people perceive you. Sometimes people just need a little push in the right direction.

My friend E just needed some of the basics. We started with a haircut and shopping at the outlets.

Fresh Face: Pre Makeover. Started with a trip to Salon Picasso

Some friends along for the ride…and moral support

We take our shopping very seriously. Can you tell by the look on my face?

Still wearing the OLD clothes…shopping night #1 complete

Stay tuned for the after pics and a few words with E, himself.

Your Work Wardrobe Needs: Flats

by Kate on May 28, 2008

In December I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease that’s been an uphill battle. And since I’ve been sick, I’ve struggled with what to wear to work. Yeah, I know that sounds crazy. Me….struggling with style?

flats.jpgFor as long as I can remember I’ve been a huge advocate of heels. I LOVE me some cute heels. Blame it on working at a shoe store in high school. In fact, I was so pro-heel that I was anti-flat. I always felt that being petite, I needed the heel to give me some presence and stature, and to make my legs a little longer. Plus, heels are just sexy. Then I got sick. Owning only heels, I spent a good 2 months wearing sneakers, flip flops, and moccasins to work. No matter where you work, in an office environment, this is unacceptable. And then I forced myself to look at flats.

While I do maintain that flats aren’t nearly as sexy as heels, they are an essential part of a work wardrobe. For one, you can wear them all day. You don’t have to wear “commuting shoes” and then switch to heels at the office. They also look great with pants, dresses, and skirts. Pair them with some skinny cropped black pants and you’re instantly as chic as Audrey Hepburn.

1. Nine West “Lovelife” flats, SALE! $39.99, Nine West; 2. Kate Spade “Polly” flats, $275, Nordstrom; Shoes for Lovely People “Blair” sandals, $110, Piperlime; Maloles “Zoe” flats, SALE! $155, Net-a-Porter

Contest: Win a 5k Shopping Spree!

by Kate on March 21, 2008

in Play.,Work.

You may have heard of designer Diane von Furstenberg (a.k.a DVF) — and by “may have heard of” I mean you definitely know her — this is the woman who brought you the iconic wrap dress, which has come to symbolize “female power and freedom to an entire generation by encouraging women to ‘feel like a woman, wear a dress.’”

DVF is legendary, and now she’s bringing you a contest.

March 8th was International Women’s Day, and in honor and support of that day, DVF has created a “Women You Love” contest. Prizes, you ask? A 5k Shopping Spree at the Flagship DVF store, a trip to NYC, PLUS 2 tickets to the Spring 2009 DVF fashion show (one for you, one for a friend)!

All you have to do is write an essay; an inspirational story about a fabulous, strong, intelligent woman who has nurtured or inspired you. Submit a photo with the story of a woman who has positively impacted your life.

You have until April 19th to enter, and all you have to do is click here to submit your essay. You can also check out the DVF Facebook Fan page, filled with news and information about DVF.

Checkout her fall 2008 lookbook, too — great for both work and play.
