I need to devote my first article to one of the simplest, most important pieces of beauty advice that soooo many people disregard.  WASH YOUR MAKE-UP BRUSHES!!!

  1. Think of your make-up brushes as an investment.  Washing them helps preserve the shape and elasticity of the hairs.
  2. Bacteria grow everywhere!  If you don’t wash your brushes, you’re spreading germs all over your face.  Ick!
  3. When you apply wet make-up (foundation, concealer, cream blush), it dries to powder on your face.  It also dries to powder on your brush making the next application more difficult and color dispersion less even.

I wash my wet make-up brushes every week.  It might seem excessive, but I notice a huge difference when my brushes are clean.  It’s unnecessary to buy expensive cleansers designed specifically for a brand.  I use plain, cheap Johnson’s Baby Shampoo.  It’s gentle and removes all traces of make-up.  It also conditions my brushes, so they’re super soft.

Also, make sure to dry your brushes – at least overnight – before using.  Lay them flat on a towel to dry.  If you dry them upright, the water will dissolve the glue that holds the hairs in place.

So, please, wash your make-up brushes.  It’s the right thing to do!
