I need to devote my first article to one of the simplest, most important pieces of beauty advice that soooo many people disregard. WASH YOUR MAKE-UP BRUSHES!!!
- Think of your make-up brushes as an investment. Washing them helps preserve the shape and elasticity of the hairs.
- Bacteria grow everywhere! If you don’t wash your brushes, you’re spreading germs all over your face. Ick!
- When you apply wet make-up (foundation, concealer, cream blush), it dries to powder on your face. It also dries to powder on your brush making the next application more difficult and color dispersion less even.
I wash my wet make-up brushes every week. It might seem excessive, but I notice a huge difference when my brushes are clean. It’s unnecessary to buy expensive cleansers designed specifically for a brand. I use plain, cheap Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. It’s gentle and removes all traces of make-up. It also conditions my brushes, so they’re super soft.
Also, make sure to dry your brushes – at least overnight – before using. Lay them flat on a towel to dry. If you dry them upright, the water will dissolve the glue that holds the hairs in place.
So, please, wash your make-up brushes. It’s the right thing to do!
