What to Wear with Leggings

by Kate Franco on August 10, 2014 · 0 comments

what to wear with leggingsShocker, leggings are a controversial topic. See: Women over 30 should not wear leggings; Principal instructs female students to ‘cover their butts’; and tights are not pants for more info. I DO think that with a few quick tips, leggings can be styled appropriately. Even still, likely not acceptable for a work environment, but a cool off duty look. It’s all about the styling!

Quick tips on leggings:

  1. Cover your butt, please. No, really. I don’t think anything more needs to be said on this topic.
  2. Tights DO NOT equal leggings. Make sure that your leggings are thick and opaque and not the slightest bit see-through. See above post on distinguishing tights from leggings.
  3. Go Sporty. Adding sporty elements creates a cohesive look.
  4. Mix in unexpected elements. This one is probably my favorite. Add in metallics, layers of jewelry, or a bold red lip and you’re good to go!

What to wear with leggings

1. Leggings + High Tops/Sneakers + Flowy Tank/Graphic Tee

2. Leggings + Metallic Sandals + Short Sleeve Sweatshirt + Jacket

3. Leggings + Flats/Booties + Layers (including an open cardigan)

I recently read an article that claimed women over 30 should not wear leggings. IMO, there’s a time and a place for everything; I definitely think leggings can be done and be done right. Even if you’re over 30 {Oh, the horror!}

I’m not saying I wear them out for a night on the town, or even to the movies. But I DO definitely wear them around as casual weekend wear, futzing around the house, dashing to the grocery store, lounging around and cooking dinner on a Sunday night.

What do you guys think? Are leggings part of your arsenal?

Relatedly, the Teeki Leggings featured in this post are like my new favorite thing. Just bought my second pair and couldn’t be happier. Here’s why:

  1. Hello, Fashion + function
  2. All Teeki Leggings are made from recycled plastic bottles, making them eco-friendly.
  3. They are remarkably lightweight. I swear it’s almost like wearing a second skin.
  4. Big on comfort. I love how comfortable they are, no weird riding, sagging or pulling.
  5. The Teekigram instagram account is wicked fun

Watch for a how-to post for leggings coming later this week!

While I was Not-Blogging

Cool. So here’s something I wore one time. Like a month ago, hopefully it’s still relevant for you.

Honestly though, sometimes you just need to 1. unplug and 2. go for comfort and that’s exactly what this outfit was: t-shirt, joggers and “vintage” black flower birkenstocks. How could this possibly get any more comfortable?

Other things I’ve been up to whilst not-blogging:

  • doing Vegas right for an EPIC bachelorette party
  • redecorating my house and spending beaucoup cash in the process
  • hanging with my man
  • watching the 2nd season of House of Cards
  • visiting my fam in Fresno before their move to Portland
  • being too obsessed with Game of Thrones {this shirt, please}
  • talking NES video games with my siblings
  • working on a blog redesign {!}
  • spinning like a MoFo and winning the #EmbraceTheSweat challenge {Uforia for the win!}
  • #ThePoshLife challenge. Are you?

I love summer.

PS: The flower birkenstocks are from 10 years ago, when birks were so not-cool. Funny how life is like that.
PPS: Get your own Mother of Dragons tee and support charity!

Sporty Spice

13 March 2014

I love that the sporty trend is going big for spring. Last season it started small with varsity jackets, etc. and now we’ve moved on to full-on leather joggers and new balance sneakers. {Major props to New Balance on that rebranding by the way. Up until recently people were like, “New Balance, who?” and now. Bam. […]

Urban Kicks

2 February 2014

These leopard sneakers are one of my most favorite recent Poshmark finds. With all the monochrome/solids I’ve been rocking lately, it seems like these shoes just GO WITH EVERYTHING. And they’re perfect for hoofing it around the city while still looking stylish. Important. Tip: If you’re feeling a little shy about animal prints, starting with […]
