Shocker, leggings are a controversial topic. See: Women over 30 should not wear leggings; Principal instructs female students to ‘cover their butts’; and tights are not pants for more info. I DO think that with a few quick tips, leggings can be styled appropriately. Even still, likely not acceptable for a work environment, but a cool off duty look. It’s all about the styling!
Quick tips on leggings:
Cover your butt, please. No, really. I don’t think anything more needs to be said on this topic.
Tights DO NOT equal leggings. Make sure that your leggings are thick and opaque and not the slightest bit see-through. See above post on distinguishing tights from leggings.
Go Sporty. Adding sporty elements creates a cohesive look.
Mix in unexpected elements. This one is probably my favorite. Add in metallics, layers of jewelry, or a bold red lip and you’re good to go!
What to wear with leggings
1. Leggings + High Tops/Sneakers + Flowy Tank/Graphic Tee
I recently read an article that claimed women over 30 should not wear leggings. IMO, there’s a time and a place for everything; I definitely think leggings can be done and be done right. Even if you’re over 30 {Oh, the horror!}
I’m not saying I wear them out for a night on the town, or even to the movies. But I DO definitely wear them around as casual weekend wear, futzing around the house, dashing to the grocery store, lounging around and cooking dinner on a Sunday night.
What do you guys think? Are leggings part of your arsenal?
Relatedly, the Teeki Leggings featured in this post are like my new favorite thing. Just bought my second pair and couldn’t be happier. Here’s why:
Hello, Fashion + function
All Teeki Leggings are made from recycled plastic bottles, making them eco-friendly.
They are remarkably lightweight. I swear it’s almost like wearing a second skin.
Big on comfort. I love how comfortable they are, no weird riding, sagging or pulling.
So then there was that one time I got a spray tan for Vegas — my entire body broke out in an eczema flare so bad I needed a 2 week course of an oral steroid to suppress it. Since then, I’ve been staying as covered up as possible and moisturizing like a fiend. Good. Times. These photos were taken just before EczemaFest 2014 and I chose not to retouch them.
Life is life. Hey y’all, sometimes I have eczema.
Also, I like bohemian everything. And that includes boho jewelry. Hence the name of this post.
Head to Toe: ASOS sunglasses, H&M Chambray Shirt, Turquoise cuff via Poshmark {love me some boho jewelry!}, Alexander Wang Rocco bag via Poshmark, Ivory crochet skirt via Poshmark, Zara booties via Poshmark
I’m always slightly suspicious of drop waist dresses. I know some ladies who can just pull. it. off. I’ve never been able to quite figure it out. But when I saw this dress, I immediately fell in love; stunning neckline and amazing floral print. Not too girly, just the way I like it. Kind of […]
Much to my mother’s chagrin, I’ve always been a whiskey girl. Being gluten free for the last year has made that trickier to say the least. I swore off all whiskey — actually, alcohol altogether — mostly. Then, a super thoughtful someone gifted me 100% corn whiskey. Which, guess what? Is. Gluten. Free. {for more […]
