Culottes Comeback

anthropologie palazzo pantshow to wear wide leg pantsgraphic palazzo pantscrocheted racerback tankgraphic culottesSome time in the late 80s or early 90s my mom and I wore matching culottes for Easter {my mom can sew ANYTHING}. I also remember that gauchos made a return some time in the mid 2000s — remember those wide leg mid-calf spandexy/lycra things with the fold over waist? But now it seems that full-on culottes have made a comeback, rebranding themselves as palazzo pants. Splendid. I think I love them. This particular pair feels a little bohemian, and let’s face it: it’s basically like wearing pajamas all day. Yes, please!

What do you guys think? Would you dare to wear?

Also: check out this cute post on the history of palazzo pants. In my mind there’s a debate on whether to be a culotte you have to be mid-calf or knee length, but then what’s the difference between culottes and gauchos? Fashion — a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Love love love! I’ve ALWAYS loved culottes/palazzos because they are ever so comfy. That mid 2000s comeback was a blessing for me, and I was so sad when they weren’t in anymore. Adore the pieces you have and how you put them together. <3

Dude, we’re like on the same wavelength! Just this morning I was thinking about what the difference is between gauchos and culottes. But if I think back to my early 90s days where all I wore were culottes, I’d say the difference is that culottes were made with pleats and were made a little more structured. Gauchos were just a jersey knit hot mess. LOL. That’s how I’m going to compare it because I love culottes and thrifted myself a pair of vintage ones last week. 🙂

Anyway, I loveeee those palazzo pants! They can be so versatile and made bohemian or more modern and chic. Either way, I love them. They look fabulous on you! <3
