Evidently, Words are Hard

So. Welcome to my first video blog…EVER. Maybe my only one ever? Who knows.

I saw this great post by Katrina @ pugly pixel, and thought it would be a good way to test my video skills. {Also, please notice that I found the fuchsia lip stain I’ve been looking for!}

Vlogging, Take 1 from Kate Franco on Vimeo.

If you’re interested in playing along, please do!

Words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:

  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  • What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
  • What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
  • What do you call gym shoes?
  • What do you say to address a group of people?
  • What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
  • What do you call your grandparents?
  • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

I say tennis shoes too! Is it outdated? Or just Midwestern? 🙂

You are very cute. Congrats on your foray into the video blogging.

Until I moved to CA, I had no idea “carriage” was a regional term for a shopping cart. People would be all “like a baby carriage?”

i also seem to remember another specific term: pocketbook!

My mother in law says pocketbook! It always takes me a minute to realize she’s talking about her purse.

I grew up in a family that called gym shoes “tennies.” I get made fun of all the time!

I love your blog and have been reading it for a couple months now. It was a trip watching your vlog…you sound so different than I remember – all grown up I guess. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Katie 🙂

I say tennis shoes too! also, I’ve seen several of these dialect videos, but yours is the only one that would be exactly the same as mine (if I made one.) I’ve lived in CA, the south, AND the midwest so finding a perfect match was pretty unlikely!

That’s incredible! I’ve only ever lived in CA, but so many people tell me I’ve got the southern thing going on.
