Luxe for Less

In the last couple of years I’ve been able to DRAMATICALLY upgrade my wardrobe with a little time, a little effort and a little money.

For context, I’m thankful that my mom gave me an appreciation for discount shopping. We spent many a Back to School season in a Ross and a Marshalls. Because of that, I’ve always loved the thrill of the chase. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that this same approach can be applied to designer goodies. YESSS. These are my tips for buying designer, without spending ALL the monies.

1. Hit up consignment and thrift shops in ritzy neighborhoods. I’m serious. My last trip to Walnut Creek scored a Helmut Lang dress for $75 or something crazy. New with tags, never been worn. I love it, and wear it all the time.
2. Use online cash back shopping sites like Ebates to get the most bang for your buck. You can get cash back from a TON of different stores, no matter your style or price point. Some of my faves: 3% at Shopbop, 3% at Nordstrom, 3% at Bloomingdales. Doesn’t seem like a lot, but it totally adds up!
3. Try re-commerce sites like Poshmark. Sell clothes from your closet and use earnings from your sales to buy new amazing stuff. Or skip the selling and negotiate an awesome {but fair} deal on the splurge item you’ve been coveting. About 75% of my wardrobe is Poshmark. No joke. Please see Exhibit A.

In all seriousness though, the thing that’s cool about these tips is that it DOESN’T MATTER what your budget is. If you think spending $500 on a handbag is ridiculous {I kind of still do!}, more power to you. I buy something because I love it, not because of the label. Use these tips to upgrade your style, not the net worth of your closet. You deserve it!
