I set a goal for myself at the beginning of 2012 to make it to 1,000+ followers on Twitter by the end of the year {so far this year I’m up 15% to 826}, plus helping some other folks with their blog designs has set the wheels churning in my head; I don’t think you can have a successful blog without social media. Aside from the fact that it obviously builds exposure and increases traffic, here are my top 3 reasons why you need social media:
It’s empowering
…and opens up the door for conversation. Social media is more than “I posted, read this!”, It’s a dialog, a rapport, an ebb and flow that allows you to actively participate in the blogging community, and allows your blog readers to engage with you. Social media is the humanization and extension of your blog or business.
It’s a listening tool
You can spend hours bouncing ideas off of a wall, but just by reading what’s out there in the atmosphere you are opening yourself up to new ideas and innovation that can help your blog, too. Ask a question, and people will answer.
It can help you get a job
NOT paying attention to your social media presence can hurt you. Therefore, by reasonable logic, paying attention to your social media presence can help you.
