I’ve never been a big brunch person…not that I don’t love brunch {because i ♥ breakfast food}, but because I’ve never really had a place where I can host one. Comfortably. This weekend my cousin, her husband, and my aunt hosted a small, sweet brunch for my birthday {upcoming}. It was beautiful! The table was decorated with a coral tablecloth, and all the fine china was out.
The flowers were absolutely stunning {picked fresh from the garden} but my favorite part hands-down was the food.
Have you ever heard of egg-in-a-hole? Well, apparently I live in a hole, because I hadn’t.
It’s a combination of my two favorite breakfast foods: french toast and eggs. Basically, you use a biscuit cutter to cut a hole in a slice of bread. Dip the bread in the french toast mixture like you normally do, and set it in the pan. Once it’s cooked up a little bit make sure it’s not sticking to the bottom of the pan and crack an egg into the hole. Fry it up, flip it to the other side.
Served with bacon, fresh-squeezed orange juice {mimosas, if you prefer}, fresh sliced fruit from the farmers market, and coffee with fresh cream. It was pure heaven.

I LOVVVE brunch – but I’ve never heard of egg-in-a-hole, either! I guess it’s for the best, as I dislike eggs pretty intensely. But this brunch sounds lovely. <3

My mom used to make this for me all the time but she called it Egg in a Nest. She also didn’t use a french toast batter, just butter. So delish.
Also, they have it on the menu at Boon Fly Cafe in Napa. Cutest spot and great food. I recommend the donuts and the Green Eggs and Ham. Yum!
