Minnie Me

by Kate Franco on September 19, 2011 · 8 comments

So I found this pic on my camera and I can’t tell you for the life of me WHEN I actually took it. After labor day sometime. But I had already been thinking about doing a post on polka dots…so it seems like kismet if you ask me.

Things I love about this outfit: the olive-y green color {of course}//the sheerness of the top//the drape and shape {bought a large at XXI so that it would be a little flowier, and also made some modifications. Like getting rid of the seriously horrible sash it came with {so many other good used for black silk ribbon, right?} and taking care of the belt loops associate with said sash.} Yes, those are parentheses within parentheses…kind of the way my mind works.

It occurred to me that this print is kind of cross between a leopard print and a polka dot, which is why I was drawn to it {I love a good animal print, yo}. I tend to shy away from prints that I regard as juvenile, since I don’t need any help looking young, thanks. Polka dots definitely fall into that category. Giant polka dots remind me of Minnie Mouse. And so, I’ve been collecting some inspiration on how to do it the “right” way.

and one look for fall:

Closing Remarks on this lengthy post: prints on the micro side are where it’s at. Or at least where I feel comfortable, anyway. On smaller pieces of clothing, too. Maybe a blouse or a scarf, or even a bangle…yeah. That’s about my speed.

About what I’m wearing

Top: XXI//Jeans: JBrand {of course}//Shoes: Seychelles//Jewelry: Lauren Ramirez Gold Dot Necklace, Rachel Burkland Tango Necklace, Bangles gifted from Dara, Ring Lauren Ramirez.

I think the polka dots on your top work really well and do a good job creating that leopard print look because (to me at least) the dots seems to be different sizes. I’m right there with ya on the smaller dots = better dots remark.
