Little Lessons Throwback

backinblack5backinblack1 backinblack2 backinblack3 loren hope necklaceToday, I’m sharing some random old pics that never got published. Surprising when that happens! I found these guys hanging out in my drafts folder and I am kind of in love with the dreamy colors. The last picture here was used for my business cards recently, and I love the way they turned out. The angles and movement, all good things.

Random, but remember way back when I used to do Little Lessons? I’m kind of in that mood tonight as I write this post, so I’m going to go ahead and run with it.

  1. I’ve been trying to make it to the gym 3 days a week, and I’ve been making good on it. I see absolutely no physical difference, but I’ve been doing a lot of yoga, so my mind is quieter.
  2. My yoga practice has been off and on for the last 10 years and this, right now, is the best it’s ever been. I don’t discount the fact that I’m more aware of myself than ever…for better or for worse!
  3. This article {11 fashion essentials every 30-something should own} inspired me to upgrade my undergarment situation, immediately. Holler.
  4. Stop believing that everything is happening to you; everything is happening FOR you.
  5. 100% of the time jazz music makes me want a glass of wine.
  6. I don’t care about football {live events excluded. I can get into any live sporting event}, except for the things that impact my fantasy team. Then I really, really care. #RealTalk.
  7. I’m into receiving snapchats.
  8. I’m thankful to be spending quality time with quality people lately. It’s a good feeling!
  9. I totally acknowledge and embrace that I am a recovering perfectionist.
  10. Need this in my life. Like now.

5 Must-Read Lessons from LuckyFABB 2013

by Kate Franco on April 15, 2013 · 8 comments

LuckyFABB Day 1. Leather shorts + lace top #undeniablestyle LuckyFABB Day 1. how to wear stacked ringsDisclaimer: I’m a LuckyFABB newbie, but have been to many other professional conferences. There were some interesting and distinct differences, but I think this advice will help you no matter what networking event you’re attending. Hope to see you at LuckyFABB next year!

Pack Light.

People are going to think I’m nuts for this one — fashion conference and all — but I really think that packing light saved me from being crazy stressed out about what to wear. I brought exactly 2 outfits, so the only thing I had to worry about was accessorizing. And you know I like to wear all of that all at once anyway. Plus, the swag bag was a carry-on in and of itself. I was stoked to have a little extra room in my suitcase!

Be Present.

Man, did I have a hard time with this at first and it’s a total rookie mistake. Live tweeting is sometimes {at least} half the fun, but I found myself getting so caught up in listening for pearls of wisdom and wisecracks that I missed entire portions of panels. Big picture is important! Things went better for me when I took a chill pill from the tweeting, instagramming and soul-sucking-battery-draining-internet-connection-searching. Note taking = a-okay.

Get Nerdy.

Don’t be afraid of sessions that sound like they might be beyond your reach. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t skip breakfast because you need energy and brain power for these things. Don’t be afraid to geek out {tastefully} over celebrities. Don’t be afraid to love every nerdy moment.

Dave Cook is probably tired of me shouting his name from the rooftops, but if you want to learn a little about SEO, definitely check out his Grow Your Traffic Through SEO presentation. Long game, but worth it for a blogger in business.

Be Open.

I feel like I learned this one because I am this way myself. At blogging conferences specifically, you’d be surprised by how many people are more comfortable behind a computer screen than in a real-life environment {yep! me! did I mention data digging is my job?} So, don’t be disheartened if it seems like people are staying in select groups or appear to be maybe just the slightest bit stand-offish. Ask engaging questions and don’t forget to smile — your open and positive energy will be contagious!

In other words: if you are excited to meet people, they will be excited to meet you.

Follow Through.

You worked hard to get where you are, so don’t let it go to waste! Maybe you met a bunch of rad people you’re totally into or a brand that you really connected with. My advice is STAY connected. Reach out via the usual channels, leave some blog love, propose a collaboration, just don’t blow off your follow up! Relationships are key. Do your due diligence and watch your network grow.

PS: I consciously did not read any other LuckyFABB recaps before I wrote this post; hopefully it’s not something you’ve read a million times before.

PPS: For my wittier LuckyFABB ramblings, find katefranco on Twitter.

PPPS: Made it to the end because you wanted to know what I’m wearing? You’re impressive.

Lessons from Miraval

by Kate Franco on November 13, 2012 · 2 comments

Remember when I took a trip this summer with my cousin to a yoga and wellness retreat in Arizona? Feels like so long ago! Well, while I was there I wrote a letter to my future self and that letter arrived in the mail today. Cue excitement…I love getting real mail! These gentle reminders are as true now as they were then. Instead of Little Lessons, I thought I’d share a truncated version of my letter.

  1. See each healthy day as a gift and embrace it.
  2. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.
  3. Get strong and you will build a whole new appreciation for life.
  4. See adventure with newfound freedom!
  5. Don’t let fear hold you back.
  6. Instead of bracing for impact, breathe deeper.
  7. If you can put fear in its place you will be well on your way.
  8. Don’t let other people put down what you consider a gift.
  9. Authentic self is the highest power.
  10. Listen to your Inner Guide.

Big lessons this week. Happy Tuesday!

Little Lessons on a Tuesday

2 October 2012

Walking Dead Season 2 finally on Netflix. YES. This show is *probably* not good for my stress level. It’s kind of like how I fall asleep to Criminal Minds sometimes. Creep. Absolutely love my latest Klout perk!  Essie’s Miss Fancy Pants. Perfect greige-y purple-y kind of color. Thanks Klout! I own 7 bikinis and one rogue […]

Little Lessons on a Tuesday

18 September 2012

I am the kind of person who chooses words carefully. I try to bring intention to every situation {yeah, I’m an overthinker}. Getting a parking spot by my house without having to drive around to look for parking can be the best part of my whole day. Just started taking a Biotin supplement. #LetsDoThis {I […]
